Fractional viscoelastic characterization of laminated glass

چکیده
Abstract. Glass façades are often required to withstand against explosive events due premeditated or accidental causes. Laminates made by glass plies bonded thin polymeric foils (laminated glass) need be used avoid catastrophic breakage. The paradigmatic case study considered is that of a rectangular three-layer laminate, two plies, modelled as Kirchhoff-Love plates, sandwiching viscoelastic interlayer. Its time-dependent response under the action blast wave described via fractional calculus operators, whose main advantage only material constants needed for an exhaustive characterization. dynamic equations treated à la Galёrkin and their integration in time relies on Grünwald-Letnikov approach. characterization presents noteworthy advantages from computational point view. We find maximum stress peak mildly affected viscosity interlayer, which instead dictates subsequent rebounding oscillations.

Comparison of viscoelastic finite element models for laminated glass beams
Laminated glass elements, which consist of stiff elastic glass layers connected with a compliant viscoelastic polymer foil, exhibit geometrically non-linear and time/temperature-sensitive behavior. In computational modeling, the viscoelastic effects are often neglected or a detailed continuum formulation typically based on the volumetric-deviatoric elastic-viscoelastic split is used for the int...

Isotropic linear and nonlinear fractional derivative constitutive relations are formulated and examined in terms of many parameter generalized Kelvin models and are analytically extended to cover general anisotropic homogeneous or non-homogeneous as well as functionally graded viscoelastic material behavior. This paper addresses an inverse approach to estimate the frequency-dependent Young’s modulus of a viscoelastic polymer layer in a laminated structure. The Young’s modulus is parameterized by a fractional derivative model and examined from a Bayesian perspective with the consideration of measurement and modeling uncertainties. This contribution presents a simple Finite Element model aimed at efficient simulation of layered glass units. The adopted approach is based on considering independent kinematics of each layer, tied together via Lagrange multipliers. Validation and verification of the resulting model against independent data demonstrate its accuracy, showing its potential for generalization towards more complex...
متن کاملImproved Sound Reduction with Laminated Glass
Growing concern over detrimental noise in densely populated areas has called for improvements in the sound insulation of our building spaces. While laminated safety glass has been optimized for safety and security and offers effective screening of UV-radiation as an additional benefit, its acoustic performance – although superior to monolithic glass – has not been given full consideration in th...
